Twenty20 World Cup 2009 : Match Schedule + Start Time

Based on the performance in the first twenty20 World Cup - India have been awarded the easiest group along side Bangladesh and Ireland in this second Twenty20 world cup to be played in England in the month of June 2009.

12 teams are broken into group of 3 in first stage out of which - 2 teams will qualify for the second round where each team plays 3 more matches before qualifying for the semi-finals. .

World Cup twenty-twenty20 fixtures have a strange pattern where each qualifying team will play two teams which qualified at number 2 in their group whereas 1 match with winner of third group.. .

similarly - the team which qualifies 2nd in a group gets to play 2 matches against group winners & 1 match versus 2nd team of a group.

A 27 match tournament whose matches will be starting mainly at 2 different timings (5pm & 1.30pm according to UK timing) and to be played at only 3 stadiums across England.

Note that the final match will be played 2 hours earlier than usual night matches and Nottingham is the ground which is also known as Trent Bridge which is one of 3 venues in England hosting this cricket tournament.

India are the defending champions.

Zimbabwe : the team which has been playing International cricket for quite some time and although their test & ODI performance were not upto the mark - they had beaten Australia in the inaugural twenty20 world cup in south africa.. yet - they have opted out of this 2nd T20 World Cup. Reason : Zimbabwe cricket doesn't think UK Government will issue visas for their team members! strange but true..

Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Deccan Chargers Live IPL Score

The race to reach the semifinals is finishing with a thrilling climax set here in Super Sport Club, Centurion when resurgent Royal Challengers Bangalore and Deccan Chargers meet. Not just a clash for semi finals makes this match interesting, but these were the two teams that were placed last during IPL 2008 and now they are fighting hard for a semifinal spot. Great comeback by both the teams!

Inconsistency has been ruling both the teams, after they’ve had dazzling starts and now is the time to pull their socks up for last fling. RCB has been rising under the leadership of Kumble but is the team becoming more and more dependant on the batting likes of Kallis and Dravid? Uthappa and Ross Taylor will need to support the two walls against Charging Deccan bowlers like Pravin Kumar Kumble.

Kumble’s bowlers will be put to test when Gilchrist and Gibbs are attacking. At the same time on Deccan Chargers side, we know what an all rounder Rohit Sharma has turned out to be lately and how Andrew Symonds can be thorn in the flesh. So in all, it will be an interesting clash of 2 balanced sides. I love Adam Gilchrist and would be happy to see them winning, but as a Bangalorean my heart goes out to Kumble and Dravid.

Laxman returns to top 20 batsmen while Ryder and Taylor are on a charge

shant Sharma achieves career-best 17th position

VVS Laxman has returned to the top 20 of the Reliance Mobile ICC Player Rankings for Test batsmen after his fighting unconquered century helped India salvage a draw in the second Test against New Zealand in Napier yesterday.

Laxman followed up his 76 in India’s 305 all out in the first innings with an unbeaten 124 as the tourists finished 476-4 after being forced to follow on. Earlier, the Black Caps had declared their first innings at 619-9.

For his excellent performances with the bat, Laxman has been rewarded with a jump of six places and puts him in 15th position, just behind master batsman Sachin Tendulkar who contributed 49 and 64 with the bat.

Opener Gautam Gambhir is the highest-ranked India batsman in fifth place and his knock of 137 in the second innings has not only strengthened his current position but has put him within striking distance of fourth-placed Mahela Jayawardena of Sri Lanka.

While Laxman is the only player in the top 20 to make an upward movement, India’s stand-in captain Virender Sehwag is the only batsman in the top 20 who has slipped down the ladder. The opener has dropped two places to 17th position after scores of 34 and 22.

There is good news for New Zealand as all its three centurions have made movements in the right direction.

Man of the match Jesse Ryder, who scored a career-best 201, has vaulted 12 places to 30th position to become his country’s highest-ranked batsman, Ross Taylor has climbed eight places to 32nd spot after a fine 151 while Brendon McCullum has jumped three places to 34th position after his third Test century.

The table is still headed by Shivnarine Chanderpaul of the West Indies who leads Pakistan captain Younus Khan by a very small margin while Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara is in third position.

In the Reliance Mobile ICC Player Rankings for Test bowlers, India fast bowler Ishant Sharma’s 3-95 has helped him leapfrog Jacques Kallis of South Africa, Pakistan’s Danish Kaneria and England’s Monty Panesar to a career-best 17th spot.

Sri Lanka’s iconic spinner Muttiah Muralidaran is the still the number-one ranked bowler with South Africa’s Dale Steyn in second spot and Mitchell Johnson of Australia in third place.

In the Reliance Mobile ICC Player Rankings for Test all-rounders there has been no change at the top, with South Africa’s Kallis still leading the way.

In the Reliance Mobile ICC Test Championship table, India will retain its third position behind Australia and South Africa irrespective of how the Wellington Test pans out. If India wins the match and the series 2-0, it will stay on 118 Ratings Points while New Zealand will also stay on 81 Ratings Points. However, if New Zealand turns the tables on India and wins the Test to square the series, India will slip to 115 Ratings Points while New Zealand will rise to 85 Ratings Points.
